  • Lorinda M. Lamken of the office of the State's Attorney's Appellate Prosecutor appeared in Mercer County Court Tuesday, Feb. 21, 2012 as a special prosecutor in the case of the people of Illinois against William R. Engle, 31, of Aledo, who appeared with his attorney Rick Keys to answer to charges filed on Jan. 25, 2012. Engle's attorney waived reading of the charges and his client pled not guilty.
Engle was charged on Jan. 25, 2012 with distributing harmful material by using his cell phone to photograph his private parts and distributing the photo to an individual under the age of 18, knowing the individual was under that age. This charge is a class 4 felony, that, if convicted could result in a sentence of from one to four years in the Illinois Department of Corrections.
He is also charged with providing alcohol to the same individual, a class A misdemeanor. A conviction for this charge would result in a fine of not less than $500.
Lamken testified to the charges on Jan. 30 in Mercer County Court and a warrant was issued. Engle is currently out on bond of $50,000 (10 percent).
During the preliminary hearing Tuesday, Attorney Keys asked the court for some exceptions to the bond to allow his client to travel in Iowa and Illinois for a job search, and to allow him to continue training in the National Guard. There was no objection by the prosecution to Engle's use of weapons in conjunction with National Guard training.
