At 1:14 a.m. this morning, the vernal equinox arrived, signaling the much-awaited start of spring, although spring here in Mercer County seems to have arrived weeks ago!
The vernal equinox is one of just two times during the year when the length of day and night are almost equal. (Vernal meaning “of spring” and equinox meaning “equal night”.)
On this day, the sun is positioned directly over the equator of a tilted Earth, which some say makes difficult balancing acts possible. Astronomers maintain, however, that planetary alignments have no physical effect on earthly objects.
