Carolyn E. McDowell, 93, of Carbondale, formerly of Woodhull, died Wednesday April 18, 2012 at home. Services are 11 a.m. Saturday, April 21, 2012 at the United Church of Woodhull. Burial is in the Woodhull cemetery. Visitation is from 5 - 7 p.m. Friday, April 20, 2012 at Peterson Wallin Knox Funeral Home in Woodhull. Carolyn was born Aug. 12, 1918 in Bishop Hill, to John and Hilda Peterson Okerstrom.
She married Harvey E. McDowell May 26, 1947 in Troy, Ks. He died March 24, 1985. Carolyn was a homemaker, a member of the United Church of Woodhul, the American Legion Auxiliary and a former member and past State President of the Mothers of World War II.
She enjoyed making hand woven rugs and Swedish rusk bread.
Survivors include one daughter Judy (Stanley) Aydt of Carbondale, one son Philip Cathcart of Alton, Mo., seven grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Her parents, husband, one son Leroy Cathcart, two brothers Carl and John Okerstrom and two sisters Lenore Berg and Kathryn Bjorklund preceded her in death.
