Go for the Gold is the theme of this year’s Burlington Steamboat Days Kids’ Day scheduled for 10 am – 2 pm on Friday, June 15. Kids of all ages are invited to this free event sponsored by Burlington Refreshment Services Pepsi, Applebee’s, Siemens Energy, Inc., and the Witte Foundation.
“With a summer Olympics slated for 2012, kids will have a chance to 'go for the gold' at this year's Burlington Steamboat Days Kids' Day,” said Kids’ Day co-chair, Amy Crowner. “Also, with this being the 50th year of Burlington Steamboat Days, a theme centered around 'gold' seemed appropriate."
Olympic activities will abound on the grounds of Burlington Steamboat Days on Kids’ Day including, patriotic cupcake decorating, Olympics-inspired temporary tattoos, balloon art and face painting, snack stations to learn how to eat healthy like Olympic athletes, and a picture station set up to look like a medal ceremony at the Olympic Games, just to name a few.
The YMCA-YWCA will conduct a series of Olympics games with prizes being distributed being distributed by age group. Kid-friendly versions of Shot Put, Discus, 40-yard dash, and hurdles will be setup on the grounds of Burlington Steamboat Days. Beginning at 10:10 am, kids can compete in a different event every twenty minutes.
Go for the Gold will feature a Cirque Du Soleil-style entertainer on the South Stage. Laura Ernst, who was featured on America's Got Talent, will perform at 10:15 am, 11:30 am and 12:45 pm. This high energy show features amazing stunts performed with juggling, hula hoops, fire and aerial fabric
Storytime with the Burlington Public Library will also be offered on the South Stage at 11 am, 12:15 pm and 1:30 pm. Books about the Olympic Games will be featured.
For the smallest attendees, a baby crawl is planned for 11 am. Register behind the South Stage at 10:30 am for one of three categories, 6-9 mos., 9- 12 mos., 1 year – ability to walk. Winners in each division will receive photography packages from the event sponsor, Wendi Riggens Photography.
Favorite activities from Kids’ Days past will also be on-hand such as a bounce house and three other inflatable activity centers, punk hair-do’s, vehicles and the Smoke House from the Burlington Fire Department and visits from Buzz the Bee.
