  • Illinois State Police District Seven announced an update to the arrest of Jason R. A. Gruber, 21, Davenport, IA for Speeding 131 MPH in a 65 MPH Zone.
On March 11, 2012 at 12:55 a.m. an Illinois State Police Trooper observed a 2003 Mercedes traveling West on Interstate 80 at Mile Marker 19 (1 mile West of Geneseo) at a very high rate of speed. The Illinois State Trooper locked the speed of the vehicle at 131 MPH on his radar unit. The trooper stopped the vehicle and arrested Gruber for Driving 40 MPH or More Above the Posted Limit. Gruber was taken to Henry County Jail.
On an average in Illinois speed is a factor in 374,165 crashes and 458 per year fatalities from 2005 to 2010. Last year District 7 experienced 24 fatalities, 50% of those fatalities were speed related.
On May 17, 2012 Gruber made a mandatory appearance with his attorney in Henry County Court and plead guilty. He was fined $2500 plus court costs for a total of $3567.00.
Captain Jeffrey Patterson (District 7 Commander) remarked, “This fine is monetarily very costly, but when you imagine what the potential destructive power at those speeds could be, it pales in comparison to the cost of human life.”
