Mary Barnhouse Johnston, 78, of Aledo, died Tuesday, July 3, 2012 at Heartland Healthcare Center in Moline. Services were 10:30 a.m., Friday, July 6, 2012 at Fippinger Funeral Home. Burial was in the Oakridge Cemetery in Millersburg. Visitation was from 5-7 p.m., Thursday at Fippinger's where the Mercer County VFW Auxiliary will conduct a service at 7 p.m. A memorial fund will be established and online condolences can be made at www.fippingerfuneralhome.com.
She was born Feb. 26, 1934 in Millersburg to Weber and Gertrude Weeks Braucht. She graduated from Aledo High School and married Carl Barnhouse Jan. 17, 1953. He died in 1992. She later married Myron Johnston.
Mary was a homemaker, assisted her husband in the operation of Barnhouse Incorporated and was later employed at Alexis Motor Company. She was a member of College Avenue Presbyterian Church and Mercer County VFW Auxiliary. She loved to be with her family.
Survivors include three daughters: Karla Anderson of Davenport, Iowa; Pam (Steve) Slavish of Matherville and Carol (Jeff) Beeding of Aledo; one son: Brad (Lisa) Barnhouse of Aledo; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two sisters: Mardelle (Curtis) Morrow of Andalusia and Carol Braucht of Aledo.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one grandchild; one sister and two brothers.
