R. Evelyn Nelson, 95, of Geneseo, formerly of Cambridge and Alpha, died Monday July 2, 2012 at Hammond Henry Long Term Care Facility in Geneseo.
R. Evelyn Nelson, 95, of Geneseo, formerly of Cambridge and Alpha, died Monday July 2, 2012 at Hammond Henry Long Term Care Facility in Geneseo. Funeral services were 10 a.m. Monday, July 9, 2012 at Grace Lutheran Church in Ophiem. Burial was in the Grace Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation was from 3-5 p.m. Sunday at Peterson Wallin Knox Funeral Home in Alpha. Memorials may be left to the Grace Lutheran Church or the Grace Lutheran Cemetery. She was born Sept. 18, 1916 in Alpha to Rhuben and Edna Peterson Rehn. She graduated from Oxford Township High School in Alpha in 1933 and married Paul H. Nelson Sept. 6, 1936 in Ophiem. He died in 1998.
Evelyn was a very active member of the Grace Lutheran Church in Ophiem and was also a member of the former Oxford Home Bureau in Alpha. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, reading and playing cards.
Survivors include two daughters, Ruth (Zack) Colt of Shell Knob, Mo. and Mary Ann (Mike) Cullen of Moline; two sons, James (Carol) Nelson of Naperville and David (Dede) Nelson of Geneseo; eight grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Her parents, husband, and one brother preceded her in death.
