  • State Fair visitors can pick up free Abraham Lincoln fans that offer discounts at area historic attractions

  • This year, the nation's 16th President will be among the numerous items you can get on a stick at the Illinois State Fair.
    Visitors to the Illinois Historic Preservation Agency's area in the air conditioned Illinois Building at the 2012 Illinois State Fair may pick up free fans bearing the famous Alexander Gardner portrait of Abraham Lincoln. The reverse side of the fan will include a list of central Illinois historic attractions, and by showing the fan at any of these places, visitors will receive special discounts on admission or merchandise from the sites' gift shops. The participating sites and the discounts offered include:
    *Abraham Lincoln Presidential Museum, Springfield. $5 off one adult admission, $10 off one Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library Foundation membership, and 10 percent off any purchase in the Museum Store.
    *Tinsley Dry Goods Store inside the Lincoln-Herndon Law Offices State Historic Site, Springfield. Ten percent off any in-store purchase.
    *Sumac Shop at the Dana-Thomas House State Historic Site, Springfield. Free Frank Lloyd Wright panoramic postcard book, while supplies last.
    *New Salem Lincoln League Museum Store and Book Store at Lincoln's New Salem State Historic Site, Petersburg. Ten percent off any purchase.
    *Museum Shop at the David Davis Mansion State Historic Site, Bloomington. Ten percent off any purchase.
