  • On Friday, Sept. 7, 2012 around 1:13 a.m., patrol officers from the Aledo Police Department conducted a stop in the 300 block of SW 3rd Street, on two subjects. During that stop officers recovered items that led the officers to believe the subject(s) were involved in criminal acts. One subject, who was a juvenile, was charged with burglary to a motor vehicle, possession of stolen property, obstruction, possession of tobacco by a minor and probation violation. This juvenile is being held at the Mercer County Jail on the related felony charges. This is an on-going investigation.
Recently the Aledo Police Department has taken numerous reports of unlocked vehicles being entered and items being taken, such as GPS devices, billfolds, cash and change. None of the vehicles that have recently and even in the past been entered, have been locked or forced entry was made -- only unlocked vehicles.
"I want to really emphasize the importance of locking your vehicles and taking away that opportunity for these types of crimes to take place," said J. Michael Sponsler, Aledo Police Chief. "I urge all our citizens, please, lock your vehicles at all times when the vehicle is not occupied."
I want to commend our officers for their persistence in responding to these burglaries and making an arrest in a timely manner.
Anyone with additional information is urged to contact J. Michael Sponsler, Chief of Police at (309) 582-2330.
