Ferne L. Hay, 92, of Aledo, died Sunday Sept. 2, 2012 at the Mercer County Nursing Home in Aledo. Services were 1:30 p.m. Wednesday Sept. 5, 2012 at the Fippinger Funeral Home in Aledo. Pastor Seth Bowker officiated. Burial was in the Aledo cemetery. Visitation was from noon until time of services Wednesday at Fippingers where memorials may be left to the Mercer County Food Pantry. She was born Dec. 7, 1919 in Seaton, to Willard and Lela Allbee McNeal. She graduated from the former Seaton High School in 1937 and married Clifford Hay Jan. 29, 1940 in Davenport, Iowa. He died June 20, 1997.
Ferne was employed at Servus Rubber in Rock Island for 15 years and assisted her husband in the operation of their farm in the old Gilchrist area retiring in 1972.
She was a member of the Viola United Presbyterian Church and enjoyed quilting, crocheting, making dolls and being with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Survivors include a son Marion (Patricia) Hay of Aledo, a daughter-in-law, Sandra Hay of Aledo, 5 grandchildren, Melissa Bruning of Sherrard, Jeffrey Hay of Aledo, Justin Hay of Davenport, Iowa, Denise Bowker of Joy, Mindy Rushford of Wheaton, seven great-grandchildren, William, Jacqueline, James, Josh, Elliot, Natalie and Jadon.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one daughter Nancy, two sons, Jim and Richard, two sisters; Gwendolyn Muhlenburg and Kathryn Mosley and four brothers; Wayne "Bud", Ray, Paul and Gene McNeal.
