The Golden Eagles had their chances but in the end, Princeville was able to pull out a two-game victory, 25-20 and 25-23.
"We seem to have lost the momentum we had," said head coach Amy Degelman.
"We have to make adjustments sooner than what we are. That that was the problem Monday night too. We are letting the mental get to us before the physical. We are letting things get into our head and there is no room for that on the varsity level. We made some adjustments in the second game. Their double blocking really got to us. We missed some serves tonight. We seemed to miss them when we needed that momentum."
The Golden Eagles fell to 3-3 in the conference play. They are 8-8 overall.
The first game started out well for Mercer County as the jumped out to a 4-0 lead behind Michaela Baker's serving.
But Princeville fought back as MacKenzie Call dominated play at the net. Princeville tied Mercer County at 4-4, 5-5, 6-6, 7-7, 8-8 and 9-9.
A pair of points from Hannah Kirkhove gave Mercer County a small 11-9 edge and one point. The game remounted night nil a pair of kills by Kristy Keiser and Call gave Princeville an 18-14 lead forcing the Golden Eagles to call a timeout. The Princes maintained at least a three point lead the rest of the way to collect the victory.
The second game was close early on as both teams were tied at 4-4. Princeville eased ahead 10-6 and Mercer County called a timeout trailing 12-8.
Kimi Nelson put some serves together and the Golden Eagles tied the score at 12-12 and went ahead 14-13 forcing Princeton to call a timeout.
The Golden Eagles held a slim lead for the next few minutes but Kristy Keiwer went on a four point run and Princeville retook the lead at 19-17.
Down 21-18 The Golden Eagles called a timeout to regroup. A kill from Kristen Heath and an ace by Hannah Kirkhove helped even the game at 21-1. Kills from Askew and Brooke Nelson tied the game at 22-22 and 23-23 but Princeville called a timeout and the Princes scored the final two points of the match.
Brooke Nelson led the team in kills with four while Becca Askew added three more.
Maggy Terrill had 11 assists. Morgan Weeks had seven digs while Kimi Nelson added five more. Hannah Kirkhove had a pair of aces.
MacKenzie Call had 11 kills to lead Princeville and three aces as well. Maggie Dwyer had 12 assists and Josie Weber led the Princes in digs with 18.
Mercer County won the junior varsity game 25-15 and 25-12.
