  • SPRINGFIELD, IL -- - Row crop producers of corn, soybeans, sorghum, alfalfa and other hay across the State of Illinois will soon be receiving a questionnaire designed to collect data that will be used in estimating county level yields for these crops from the 2012 harvests.
The National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) Illinois Field Office will begin mailing these questionnaires on October 17th to roughly 8,300 Illinois corn and soybean farmers. Then in November if we have not yet received their questionnaire, one of our telephone enumerators will attempt to follow up with them.
"Information collected during this survey is used to set individual crop county estimates for all the major producing counties in Illinois" said Brad Schwab, Director of the Illinois Field Office. "In order to publish the yield for any given county, it is necessary to have a minimum of 30 good reports so that's why it's so important that famers complete this survey."
County estimates are a vital part of agriculture and are used to evaluate and administer farm commodity, credit, conservation, disaster, insurance and loan programs. As with all NASS reports, results are published so no individual producer can be identified. For more information, please contact the Illinois Field Office at (800) 622-9865.
The Illinois Field Office is the local administrator of programs for the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service and is a cooperator with the Illinois Department of Agriculture.
