BOLINGBROOK, Ill. -- Oct. 30, 2012 -- Genesis Health System moved a step closer to the transfer of ownership of Mercer County Hospital and Mercer County Nursing Home on Tuesday when the Illinois Health Facilities Planning Board unanimously approved both proposed transfer plans.
Genesis President and CEO Doug Cropper and Mercer County Hospital Administrator Ted Rogalski made presentations to the board prior to the vote.
Genesis Health System entered into a management services agreement in March 2009 to provide oversight of day-to-day operations at Mercer County Hospital. In August 2011, Genesis also began oversight of day-to-day operations at the Mercer County Nursing Home.
Earlier this year, Mercer County voters approved a proposal from the Mercer County Board of Supervisors to transfer ownership of both county-owned facilities in Aledo, Ill. The transfer of ownership to Genesis will secure the future for both facilities in a challenging healthcare environment.
Mercer County Hospital is a 25-bed critical access hospital. Mercer County Nursing Home is a 92-bed nursing care facility.
"The board's approval today is another important step toward bringing the Genesis mission of quality, compassionate healthcare to all of the people of Mercer County,'' Cropper said. "We anticipate completing the process in the coming months.
"We'd like to thank the people of Mercer County for their support during this transition. We look forward to serving them long into the future.''
