Marian Ruth Howard, 84, of New Boston, entered into eternal rest to join Gene in Heaven on Friday, Nov. 9, 2012, at Trinity Hospital-Muscatine.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2012, at the Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home. Burial will take place in Drury Reynolds Cemetery. Reverend Beth Nelson of the Eliza Community Church will officiate. Casket bearers will be Mike Newsom, Brian Newsom, Jeff Howard, Chad Freberg, William Swift, and Matthew Swift.

Marian was born on March 4, 1928, in Freeport, the daughter of Carl M. and Lura Steninger Kracht. She married Melvin “Gene” Howard on January 14, 1950, in Muscatine. He preceded July 23, 2012.
She was a homemaker and farmer helping Gene with everything on the farm. She loved gardening, reading, and especially her grandchildren.
She was a member of the Eliza Community Church, Eliza Ladies Aide, and a partner with Gene with all the Lion’s Club activities. She was also a past 4-H leader.
Those left to honor her memory include one son Steven (Barbara) Howard of Illinois City; two daughters Kathy Jenkins of Illinois City, and Diane Swift of Aledo; 15 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; one sister Joan Behrens of Bettendorf; and a lifelong friend Doris Onken of Muscatine.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one daughter Debra Howard, one grandson David Newsom, one great grandson Andrew Newsom, one sister Lois Laeser, and one son-in-law Jonathon Swift.
