The 1st Community Bank of Sherrard was robbed Monday afternoon.
Mercer County Sheriff Tom Thompson reported that the department received a 9-1-1 call around 1:05 p.m. Dec. 10.
Thompson described the suspect as a black make between 5-8 and 5-11 with a thin face.
"An individual came into the bank and confronted bank employees asking for money," said Thompson. Thompson said a woman in the bank was struck in the face by the hand of suspect. First responders treated the woman and she did not require hospitalization.
The suspect escaped with an undisclosed amount of money leaving the scene northbound in a four door sedan described as green or bluish green in color.
The suspect was wearing a hat and his face was mostly covered.
Thompson said the Federal Bureau of Investigation had been informed of the case and the Illinois State Police Crime scene investigation team was at the site.
Thompson said the case is being treated separately from the bank robbery that occurred in Viola in November noting the suspects difference in appearance.
