  • Raymond Gilbert Hall, 91, died Sunday December 16, 2012, at Christian Health Care in Republic, MO. He was born on March 23, 1921, in Pike County, IL, the son of Frank and Inez (Owens) Hall. He spent his entire life in the Pike County area, until moving to Clever, MO, during his retirement years.

  • Raymond Gilbert Hall, 91, died Sunday December 16, 2012, at Christian Health Care in Republic, MO. He was born on March 23, 1921, in Pike County, IL, the son of Frank and Inez (Owens) Hall. He spent his entire life in the Pike County area, until moving to Clever, MO, during his retirement years.
    Mr. Hall attended Tollgate Elementary School, and graduated in 1939 from Griggsville High School. When WWII started, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, where he was part of the first offensive operation in the South Pacific as a member of the First Marine Division. He was actively engaged in many major battle areas including; Guadalcanal, Peleliu, New Guinea, Solomon Islands, New Hebrides and others. He received the Purple Heart, American Campaign, Asiatic Pacific Campaign, and Victory WWII medals.
    Raymond married Sylvia Jane Stice on November 2, 1946, and became a farmer and laborer, primarily in the New Salem and Pittsfield, IL, areas. He enjoyed family activities, hunting, collecting mechanical pencils, arrowheads, coins, and playing guitar. In his later years, he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, going to yard sales, and visiting with neighbors and friends. He was a member of the American Legion for many years.
    His wife of 65 years preceded him in death, along with his parents, three brothers and two sisters. He is survived by his three children, R. Bruce Hall (wife, Linda) of Aledo, IL; Renee Rethman (husband, Bill) of Clever, MO; and, Lori Motley (husband, Don) of Battlefield, MO. Also surviving are four grandchildren, Krista (Hall) Ney (husband, Lloyd), Kevin Hall (wife, Nikki), Haylee Rethman, and Ryan Motley, as well as six great-grandchildren.
    A graveside service will be held December 28 at 2 P.M. at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Springfield, MO. The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, memorials be left to the Disabled American Veterans in care of Meadors Funeral Home, Republic, MO 65738.
