  • As members of the 98th Illinois General Assembly took their oaths of office on Wednesday during a ceremony at the University of Illinois at Springfield, State Rep. Pat Verschoore (D-Milan) reaffirmed his commitment to always be a voice for the people of the district and acknowledge that much hard work still lies ahead.

“As I take the oath of office today I realize that we have a long road ahead to get the state working for us again,” Verschoore said. “This is going to require both parties to put politics aside and focus on our chief responsibility to do right by Illinois taxpayers and make wise decisions with the scarce resources we have.”

Verschoore said that in the next two years he is committed to making sure that the residents of the 72nd District get their fair share of state resources. The Western Illinois University expansion project is vital for the region and will help boost the economy. Making sure this project is completed on time is of upmost importance. He will also work to prioritize spending to eliminate waste and protect vital funding for local schools, job creation programs, veterans and senior programs. He will also fight to improve business opportunities for our state so we can create jobs and improve our economy.

“We must build on the reforms that we have passed in previous General Assembly’s and continue to get Illinois moving in the right direction,” Verschoore said. “We have significant challenges ahead but I am confident that if we work together, we can get our state back on the right track”

Verschoore will also continue to maintain a full-time constituent service office to help local residents navigate state services and cut bureaucratic red tape. For questions, to request state assistance, or to offer suggestions and comments, please contact his office at (309) 558-3612.

Verschoore represents the 72nd Representative District, which includes portions of Rock Island and Mercer counties.
