  • Betty I. Sedam, 90, of New Boston, IL, died Tuesday, January 29, 2013, at Trinity Medical Center in Muscatine, Iowa. Services are 10 a.m., Saturday, February 2, 2013 at the New Boston United Methodist Church. Burial will be in the New Boston Cemetery. Visitation is from 4-7 p.m., Friday at Fippinger Funeral Home in Aledo where memorials may be left to the New Boston United Methodist Church or the New Boston Ambulance.     She was born May 17, 1922 in Keithsburg, IL to Paul and Grace Garrett Boden. She graduated from New Boston High School. She married Richard Delos “Sonny” Sedam June 22, 1940 in Muscatine, Iowa. He died in 1987.
    Betty was a homemaker and assisted her husband in the operation of the family farm. In 1962, she and her husband moved to New Boston where she was employed at the Curtis Grocery Store. She and her husband later owned and operated New Boston Farm and Home.
    Betty was a member of the New Boston United Methodist Church and the Mercer County VFW Post 1571 Auxiliary. She enjoyed playing cards, bird watching, attending her grandchildren’s activities and especially loved being with her family.
    She is survived by two daughters: Linda (Merle) Reed of Illinois City, IL; Sally Sedam of New Boston, IL; two sons: Rick (Maxine) Sedam; Tom (Vickie) Sedam both of New Boston, IL; 11 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; 8 great great grandchildren; one brother: Tay (Becky) Boden of New Boston, IL; several nieces and nephews.
     
     
     
    She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one daughter and son-in-law: Cheryl and Gary LeHew; and one brother: Paul Jr.
