Local residents curious about Monmouth College’s newest varsity sports can get a sneak peek in March and April.
A club sport for the remainder of this academic year, water polo will be elevated to varsity status in the fall. This spring, the women’s club team will host two women’s club team tournaments at the Pepper Natatorium. Four teams – Augustana, Washington University, St. Louis University and Knox – will join Monmouth for a round-robin tournament on March 2-3. Monmouth opens the weekend on Sat., March 2 with a 10 a.m. match against Augustana and will close the weekend with a 1:30 p.m. match on Sunday against traditional rival Knox.
In April, Monmouth’s women will entertain club teams from Carleton, St. Mary’s University, the University of Minnesota and Washington University. At 10 a.m. on Sat., April 13, Monmouth will open their weekend against Carleton. Monmouth ends the weekend on April 14 with a 2 p.m. match against Washington University.
Water polo consists of four, eight minute quarters, plus two, three minute overtime periods if needs. Teams consist of seven players, including the goalkeeper.
