ROCK ISLAND, IL – State Rep. Pat Verschoore (D-Milan) was awarded the Legislative Hero award by the Illinois State Alliance of YMCAs’, and Rock Island’s Two Rivers YMCA, Wednesday.
“It’s an honor to be recognized by such a great organization,” Verschoore said. “Our local YMCA’s have been providing quality programs for youth and adults alike and I will do what I can to help them continue their good work.”
A strong supporter of the YMCA, and a longtime advocate for community health, Verschoore received the Illinois State Alliance of YMCAs’ annual legislative award, recognizing his role in helping to secure $175,000 for needed improvements to Rock Island’s Two Rivers YMCA. The Two Rivers YMCA to hosted Verschoore last November to showcase the updates made possible by the capital grant. Verschoore has also been very supportive of the Y’s Pioneering Healthier Community activities in western Rock Island.
“The YMCAs’ Pioneering Healthier Communities program focuses on improved access to fresh fruits and vegetables and building an environment that encourages physical activity” Mike Wennekamp, Two Rivers YMCA CEO said. “It’s an effort that will only succeed with the support of community leaders. Overall, Rep. Verschoore’s pragmatic approach to serving his constituents has helped the Y enhance our ability to improve the quality of life in the Illinois Quad Cities. It was an honor to nominate Pat for this award.”
