Today, Congresswoman Cheri Bustos (IL-17) invited high school students from across Illinois’ 17th Congressional District to submit their original artwork for the annual Congressional Art Competition, “An Artistic Discovery.”
“I highly encourage Illinois high school students to participate in this year’s art competition,” Congresswoman Bustos said. “There are so many talented young artists across our region, and this is a tremendous opportunity for their work to be displayed for thousands of people to see. As someone who has always had an appreciation for the visual arts, I’m honored to help feature the work of a young Illinois artist in the U.S. Capitol and look forward to seeing all of the entries.”
The Congressional Art Competition, first held in 1982, is a nationwide high school arts competition sponsored by the U.S. House of Representatives. One winning piece of artwork from each House district will be selected to be displayed in the Cannon Tunnel of the U.S. Capitol Building in Washington for the next year.
The winner of the competition will also win two round-trip airline tickets to Washington, D.C. Prizes will also be awarded to the runners-up.
Any high school student from Illinois’ 17th Congressional District is eligible to submit their original artwork for consideration. To enter, students must submit a digital image of their artwork through Bustos’ website. The submissions will be compiled into an internet gallery for voting on by the public.
The submission deadline is April 22nd, 2013 and the winner will be chosen on May 1st, 2013. There is a limit of one submission per student.
