Individuals of all ages who want to know more about horses are invited to "A Day at Horse College," a free clinic Saturday, April 6 at Black Hawk College East Campus.
The event will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and is sponsored by Black Hawk College and the Illinois Quarter Horse Youth Association.
Pre-registration is not needed. Admission is free. Door prizes will be awarded and a lunch stand will be available.
Lecture hallNoon to 1 p.m. – Lunch/entertainment
- 10-11 a.m. – Careers in the Equine Industry. Get a "leg up" on opportunities in the equine industry and meet Black Hawk College recruiter Ashley Middleswarth.
- 11 a.m. to noon – Illinois Quarter Horse Youth Association membership session
Arena
- 1-2 p.m. – Work out with the Black Hawk College horse judging champions placing halter and performance classes.
- 2-3 p.m. – Nutrena will present "Feed Lab"
Noon to 1 p.m. – Break
- 10-11 a.m. – Showmanship presentation by Jennifer Burton
- 11 a.m. to noon – Barrel Racing 101 presentation by Donna Irvin
- Learn the foundation to a consistent, efficient barrel run.
Bring your cowboy hat for free hat shaping by John Irvin from 11 a.m. to noon and 1-2 p.m. First 50 youth who purchase a ILQHYA membership will receive a gift basket.
- 1-2 p.m. – Horsemanship presentation by Jeff Greaves
- Bring your notebook for tips on rider position and pattern precision.
- 2-3 p.m. – Reining presentation by Doug Bogart
- Homework techniques to achieve correct reining pattern maneuvers.
