(Juanita) Jean Vance, 89, of Tomball, Texas, formerly of Aledo, and Carrollton, Ga., passed away on Monday, March 11, 2013. Jean, the former Jean Glancey, was born on July 2, 1923 in Aledo. Jean married Donald E. Vance in Davenport, Iowa on Oct. 18, 1942. They celebrated 70 years of marriage on Oct. 18, 2012.
Jean is survived by Donald E. Vance, her loving husband of 70 years; Jennifer (Tom) Boaz , daughter, Spring, Texas; Jeffrey Vance (Diane), son, Charlotte, N.C.; Mindy (Todd) Just , granddaughter, Magnolia, Texas; Jon (Dede) Boaz, grandson, Colleyville, Texas; Kevin Vance, grandson, Charlotte, NC; and great-grandchildren Jessica Just, Ashley Just, and Colin Just of Magnolia, Texas and Andrew Boaz, Faith Boaz and Paul Boaz of Colleyville, Texas.
Also surviving are Lois Vance, sister-in-law, six nieces and five nephews.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents, Harry L. and Verle Maynard Glancey, brother Donald M. Glancey, sister Deloris I. Magrew, grandson Floyd Vance, and nephew Bobby Vance.
Soon after Jean and Donald married, Donald was drafted into the Army Air Corp. Jean followed Donald to several U.S. air bases during his four years of service as a P-47 fighter and B-24 bomber mechanic. They resided in Biloxi, Miss., Pocatello, ID and Greenville, Texas. After Donald returned from service, they made their home in Aledo for the next 35 years. During this time they raised two children. In 1981 Donald and Jean retired to Carrollton, Ga. where they lived until 2003. In 2003, they moved to Tomball, Texas.
Jean will be remembered as a loving and caring Mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She loved singing hymns, painting, and many other types of arts and crafts. Jean was also a wonderful cook. She was an active member of the Methodist Church.
As a special remembrance, the family wants to thank Southern Knights Assisted Living, Serenity’s Haven, and The Woodlands Healthcare Center for their care and support.
Visitation was held at Klein Funeral Home in Tomball, Texas on March 15, 2013. The Memorial Service was at Rose Hill United Methodist Church in Tomball, Texas, on March 16, 2013. Burial will be in Aledo.
