Darrin L. Reed, 44, of Woodhull, died Satu rday, March 30, 2013 at Heartland Health Care Center in Galesburg, after a courageous 7 ½ year battle with brain cancer. Services are 2 p.m., Friday, April 5, 2013 at Alpha United Methodist Church. Burial is in the Woodhull Cemetery. Visitation is 4-8 p.m., Thursday at Peterson-Wallin-Knox Funeral Home in Woodhull where memorials may be left to the Alpha Methodist Church or his Children’s College Education Fund. He was born September 14, 1968 in Galesburg, to Dale and Nancy Ingram Reed. He graduated from AlWood High School in 1986 and received his associate’s degree electronics from Southern Illinois University. Darrin married Erica Barton June 17, 2000 in Alpha.
He was employed at Bob’s TV & Appliance in Kewanee, Microage in Galesburg, and as a test technician at Maytag in Galesburg until it closed in 2003. Darrin then received his certificate in web design from Blackhawk College.
He was a member of the Alpha United Methodist Church. He enjoyed watching movies, science fiction, fixing cars, riding his motorcycle, computers, video gaming, Wii, entertaining people and making them laugh and especially enjoyed his children.
He is survived by his wife: Erica; one daughter: Leah; one son: Devin, both at home; his parents: Dale and Nancy Reed of Galesburg; one brother: Gary Reed of Galesburg; ; three nieces and one nephew: Elizabeth, Jennifer, Jaiden and Jared Reed; father-in-law and mother-in-law: Gary and Judy Barton of Alpha; one sister-in-law: Gail (Colin) McNiece and their children: Ella, Cole and Neala, all of Scituate, Massachusetts.
