Michael J. Fox, who had his breakout television role in the 1980s NBC sitcom Family Ties, is among those mourning the loss of the show's creator, Gary David Goldberg, who died Sunday.
"With a full heart I say goodbye to my mentor, benefactor, partner, second father and beloved friend, Gary David Goldberg," Fox said in a statement. "He touched so many with his enormous talent and generous spirit. He changed my life profoundly. Love to [Goldberg's wife] Diana and all of Gary's family."
After Family Ties went off the air in 1989, Fox went on to star in another of Goldberg's sitcoms, Spin City.
Goldberg died Sunday after a battle with brain cancer. He was 68 and is survived by his wife and their two grown daughters.
