Helen V. Gorham, 86, of Muscatine, died on Tuesday, May 21, 2013, at Lutheran Homes.
Funeral Mass was held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 25, 2013, at St. Patrick Church, 9619 140th Street West, Andalusia, IL 61284. The Reverend Richard Barclift and The Reverend Stephen Englebrecht will con- celebrate. Honorary bearers were Keith Irwin, and Gene Gorham. Casket Bearers were Donald DeKeyrel, Randy McGinnis, Keaton Jurevitz, Keith Gorham, Mitchell Jurevitz, Richard Sedam, and Pete Hoehn. Burial will take place in Muscatine Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation was from 4 until 7 p.m. on Friday, May 24 2013, at the Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home, with a Rosary Prayer Service at 7 p.m. Additional visitation was held from 9:30 until 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 25, 2013, at the church. Helen was born on July 19, 1926, in Muscatine, the daughter of Julius and Margaret Gaucis Jurevitz. She was a graduate of St. Mary High School which was a class of four graduates. She married Richard Eugene Gorham on May 3, 1953, at the St. Mary Church in Muscatine. He preceded her in death on October 3, 1998.
Helen had worked McKee Button Factory in Muscatine until she married. She joined Richard on his family farm in Illinois in 1953, where they worked side by side. They spent many anniversaries planting tomatoes together.
She was a member of St. Mary Parish and also attended St. Patrick Church. She was a 60+ year mem- ber of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas – Joan of Arc Court 524. She belonged to a number of card clubs and also enjoyed bowling. Helen never missed a sport- ing or music event of her grandchildren.
Survivors include a daughter, Kathleen Gierlus and husband, Dr. David Gierlus, of Illinois City; three grandchildren, Dr. Kelly Marie Gierlus, Gregory Richard Gierlus and wife, Kortney, and Kristen Lynn Gierlus; one great-grandson, Joseph Gierlus; one broth- er, James Jurevitz and wife, Georgia, of Hillsdale, Illinois; several nieces and nephews; and two special sisters-in-law, Lucille DeKeyrel and Maxine Sedam.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her hus- band; one daughter, Mary Helen Ford on July 16, 2008; two sisters, Josephine Morse and Bernice Jurevitz; two brothers, Phillip and Edward Jurevitz; and a nephew and godchild, Robert Jurevitz.
