  • Today, Congresswoman Cheri Bustos (IL-17) issued the following statement commemorating the twelfth anniversary of the September 11th, 2001 terrorist attacks:
“Twelve years ago today, senseless acts of terror resulted in the death of thousands of innocent Americans in the worst attacks on our soil since the bombing of Pearl Harbor. Today, I join with all Americans in pausing to remember all those who lost their lives on that day and all who have died in defense of our liberty in the years followings.
“We also pay tribute to the heroes who rushed up burning flights of stairs, through smoke and flames, dug through rubble and bravely put their lives on the line so that others could live. Starting out my journalism career covering first responders and being married to someone who has dedicated his life to serving and protecting others gave me a firsthand look into the sacrifices law enforcement officers make to keep our communities and families safe, and for them I will always be grateful.
“The resiliency and unity our nation showed following the tragedy of September 11, 2001 should serve as a reminder that what unites us is more important than what divides us and I believe today is a time to reflect once again on this important principle.”
