  • Shannon Brown will be running in the Chicago Marathon October 13 in honor of her brother-in- law B.J. Luxmore, who died in Afghanistan on June 10, 2012.
"This is my first marathon," said Brown. "I've been running every morning for months. The furthest I've ran so far is 20 miles. I'm pretty sure I can do it. My family will be there supporting me and B.J.'s family as well. "I'd like to thank every- one who has donated. They have raised a whole lot of money for a good cause."
Brown has raised more than $3,500 which will go to the Pat Tillman Foundation.
Brown said Luxmore planned on becoming involved in the Pat Tillman Foundation when he returned from his deployment.
Anyone who is inter- ested in making dona- tions can mail a check to Brown at 2065 120th Ave. Aledo, IL 61231. The check should be made payable to the Pat Tillman Foundation. Donations can also be made online at https://www.active.comB.J. Luxmore/donate/teamtill- manchicago13/SBrown69 5
The Tribute to BJ is the top fundraiser at the Chicago Marathon for the Pat Tillman Foundation. "That just goes to show what a wonderful,, sup- portive, and giving com- munity we are a part of. I am hoping that with donations from the com- munity we can keep BJ as the top fundraiser for the PTF at this event. I want more than anything for this to be a successful fundraiser for a great foundation, in honor of a great person who gave all for our country," said Brown.
Family and friends cre- ated the Pat Tillman Foundation in 2004 fol- lowing Tillman's death while serving with the U.S. Army's 75th Ranger Regiment in Afghanistan. The mission of the foun- dation is to invest in mili- tary veterans and their spouse through educa- tional scholarships.
