  • Marianna C. Thorndike, 80, of Aledo, passed away Thursday, Oct. 3, 2013 in her home. Private services were Monday, Oct. 7, 2013 at Fippinger Funeral Home in Aledo. Burial will be at a later date in the Oquawka Cemetery. Visitation was 3-5 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 6, 2013 at Fippinger’s.     Marianna was born Sept. 26, 1933 in Bald Bluff Township, Henderson County, to Cecil and Gertrude Lynn Cooper. She attended Oquawka Schools and graduated from Gladstone High School. She married David Thorndike Sept. 2, 1951 in Oquawka. They lived in Davenport, Ia. and moved to Aledo in 1970. He died May 2, 1985.
    Marianna was employed at various jobs. Her last employment was at The Aledo Times Record from 1974 to 1993.
    Survivors include one daughter: Cindy (Dick) Humes of Little York; two sons: Cecil (Mary) Thorndike of Warsaw, Ind.; Scott (Sherie) Thorndike of Joy; seven grandchildren: Steven, Jessica, Megan, Nicholas, Melissa, David and Dennis; three great grandchildren: Marlena, Destiny and Emily; one sister: Elaine Emery of Poplar Bluffs, Mo.; and many loved nieces, nephews and special friends along with three sisters-in-law.
    Her parents; husband; one grandchild; three brothers; one sister; one niece; one nephew and one very special friend: Rich Baldwin preceded her in death.
