  • Floyd L. “Barney” Barnhouse, 90, of Winamac, Ind., passed away at 11:40 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2013 at Pulaski Health Care Center in Winamac, Ind.

    Floyd L. “Barney” Barnhouse, 90, of Winamac, Ind., passed away at 11:40 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2013 at Pulaski Health Care Center in Winamac, Ind.
    He was born March 18, 1923, in New Boston, to Ed and Ruth Hallsted Barnhouse.
    Floyd was married to Alberta J. Platt on June 14, 1952, in the Hamlet Presbyterian Church, Mercer County. She passed away on May 29, 2002.
    A native of Mercer County, Floyd graduated in 1942 from Keithsburg High School. He also was a 1951 grad- uate of Western Illinois College.
    Floyd served in the US Navy as a Motor Machinist Mate Third Class during World War II. He was a mem- ber of American Legion Post #71.
    He was a retired farm drainage contractor. He was a member of the Indiana Land Contractors Association. Floyd was also a former Soil Conservationist and was the first manager of the Winamac Office of the US Soil & Water Conservation Service.
    Floyd was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Winamac, Ind. where he formerly served as a Deacon.
    He enjoyed auto racing including the Indy 500 and NASCAR.
    Floyd also enjoyed watching wildlife from the back window of his home.
    Survivors include: Jenise M. (Laura Bailey) Barnhouse, Winamac, Ind. daughter, Jonathan Barnhouse, grandson, David Barnhouse, grandson, Agnes Barnhouse, Coal Valley, sister-in-law and many beloved nieces and nephews.
    Preceded in death by: Ed Barnhouse, father, Ruth Hallsted Barnhouse, mother, Alberta J. Platt Barnhouse, wife, Jason F. Barnhouse, son, Stephen Barnhouse, grandson, Verne Barnhouse, brother, Carl Barnhouse, brother, Charles Barnhouse, brother, Florence Nudo, sister, Gail Miller, sister, and Beryl Crose, sister.
    Funeral Services were held at 1 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 13, 2013, at Frain Mortuary, Winamac, Ind. with Rev. Laura Bailey officiating.
    Burial took place in McKinley Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Winamac, Ind.
    Visitation was from 4-8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 12, 2013 at Frain Mortuary.
    Memorial Contributions may be given to Alberta J. Barnhouse Memorial Scholarship Fund through the Pulaski Co. Community Foundation or the American Heart Association.
    The VFW and American Legion will conduct mili- tary graveside services. Arrangements have been entrusted to Frain Mortuary, Winamac, Ind.
