Ralph L. “Rasty” Moore, 94, o f Viola, died Thursday, Oct. 24, 2013 at the Heartland Health Care Center in Moline. Private graveside services are Tuesday morning in the Viola Cemetery. Ralph was born August 15, 1919 in Millersburg, to Ray and Edna Pierce Moore. He attended Black Oak Schools. He married Mary L. Crawford Feb. 14, 1942 in Kahoka, Miss. She died Oct. 2, 2000.
Ralph owned and operated a trucking company in Viola for many years. He farmed in the Viola area and worked at John Deere Plow/Planter in Moline, retiring in 1981. He drove for Mack Trucking for several years and was a jack of all trades.
He was a member of the Edwards River Antique Gas Engine Association, traveling to area shows and events for many years.
He enjoyed horse trail riding, antique tractor restoration, horseracing, the New Windsor Fair and Rodeo and most recently was an excellent Wii bowler. He especially enjoyed wintering in Arizona and California.
Survivors include two daughters: Linda (Jack) Sackfield of Rock Island; Susie (Jeff) Sergeant of Preemption; two sons: Robert Moore of Orange, Calif.; Dave (Colleen) Moore of Viola; two grandchildren: Jim (Joanne) Erickson of Vance, Ala.; Brad (Gwynne) Erickson of Laveen, Ariz.; three great grandchildren: Anthony, Jeff and Brandon; one brother: Jim (Deanna) Moore of Knoxville; several nieces and nephews including a special nephew: Beef (Donna) Adams and special "daughter": LuAnn Weldon.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; one sister: Ruth Chard; and four brothers: John, Wade, Bill and Joe.
