The Sherrard Tigers tamed the Golden Eagles Tuesday night in the second game of the Orion Tip Off Classic with a 61-57 victory over Mercer County.
Sherrard took an early lead in the first quarter with 20 points and led 20-12 heading into the second period. The Golden Eagles bounced back in the second period outscoring Sherrard 15-8 and trailed only 28-27 heading into the locker room at the half.
The Golden Eagles kept up the pressure in the third quarter and took a 43-42 lead into the final period. The back and forth struggle continued in the final period but the Tigers prevailed for the victory.
Tyson Nyllin led the Golden Eagles in scoring with 17 points while Brandon Butcher put in 14; Austin Jackson nine and Spencer Wood, seven.
Scoring for Sherrard were: Ben Swanson, 18; Dwight Swartz, nine, Clayton Bjustrom and Nathan Kelly, eight; Jake Kissner, six; Lucas Boraas, five; Logan Larson, four and Blake Lampo, three.
