  • Want to learn by doing? This is your opportunity to find a new life long hobby or improve on a skill you already have. Illinois 4-H has implemented this new club format to give today’s youth opportunities to learn from volunteers who have expertise in a subject area. New clubs this winter/spring include Photography, Sewing, Cooking, Engineering, and Horses. To join a 4-H SPIN Club there is a yearly $20 4-H enrollment fee. Once that fee has been paid, youth may participate in as many SPIN Clubs as they would like and would just pay any associated supply fees. Scholarships are available upon request. Here’s what’s coming up at U of I Extension’s 4-H in Henry, Mercer, Rock Island and Stark Counties:
(Milan, IL) Engineering: Energized Engineers 4-H SPIN Club will meet Thursday January 30 from 6-7 p.m. at the University of Illinois Extension office in Milan. The fallowing meetings dates and times will be determined by the leader and members of the club. 7th through 12th grade students can join the club. In the club members will face questions engineers encounter on a daily basis. Youth will participate in three competitions over the time of the club. The competitions consist of bridge building (February 1st), trebuchet egg throw (April 11th, Bettendorf High School), and a cardboard boat regatta (May 16th, Middle Park Lagoon). Participants will be placed in teams for each competition. Before the competitions youth will meet with the leader to design and build your masterpieces. There is a $10 supply fee for this club which will cover registration fees for the teams.
