  • An emergency order of protection was granted to a 37 year old woman Monday morning, April 21, in Mercer County Circuit Court against her husband Robert Young. He is charged with Count 1, class 4 felony, obstruct justice in that he lied to an officer stating he did not hit his wife the night of April 20. He is also charged with count 2 domestic battery alleging that on April 20 he hit his wife in the face with his fist in such a way as to cause her to need immediate surgery. Judge Bell found probable cause for abuse in count 2 early in the morning when the judge could easily see the damage on her face. He also found probable cause in count 1.
Mr. Young indicated to the judge that he would hire private counsel by Daniel Dalton. Preliminary hearing is set for May 6 at 10:20 a.m., the same day as the review for the emergency order of protection when the judge will decide whether to extend the order of protection to 2 years. Assistant State's Attorney Meeghan Lee asked for bond to be set at $15,000, 10 percent to apply. He was served the emergency order of protection in court and is to have no contact with his wife. The Sheriff's department is to aid in receiving his things from the protected address (his home.)
