Carl Robert Thompson, 83, of Peoria, Ariz. formerly of Aledo, went to be with the Lord on April 29, 2014.
Carl Robert Thompson, 83, of Peoria, Ariz. formerly of Aledo, went to be with the Lord on April 29, 2014. Carl was born April 14, 1931 in Viola, Rivioli Township, Mercer County, the son of Earl St.Clair Thompson and Sylvia Warner Andersen Thompson.
Carl was raised in rural Mercer County and helped on his family’s farm. He graduated from Aledo High School in 1949. He joined the United States Navy in April of 1951 and was stationed on the USS Bannock as Storekeeper Second Class, USN-1. He was honorably discharged in April of 1955. He received the National Defense Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal.
After being discharged from the Navy, he met Lorna Ann Elliott at one of her father’s dances. They were married in Edgington Presbyterian Church, Edgington, on Nov. 11, 1955.To this union four children were born, Carleen Rae, Barbara Jean, Carla Rose, and Kevin Scott Thompson. They were divorced June 6, 1966.
On June 29, 1968, Carl married Betty Ann Johnson, in Milan. Betty brought her daughter Daroliliti (Dee) Ann Johnson to this union and Carl adopted her.
Carl and Betty lived in Joy, for numerous years moving to Aledo. In 2004, they moved to Arizona to be closer to Dee, Rick and family.
Carl is survived by his wife of 44 years Betty of Peoria, Ariz., daughters Carleen Rae Baldwin and husband Steve of Waterloo, Barbara Jean Benson and husband Jim of Aztec, N.M., Dee Ann Lowe and husband Rick of Glendale, Ariz., Carla Rose Allmon and husband Dave of Cortez, Colo. and son Kevin Scott Thompson of Farmington, N.M. Grandchildren Stephanie, Emily, Merry, Jennifer and Joey Baldwin, John Dale Mayhew, Sarah and Rachel Benson, Angela Lowe and fiancée Doug Guyedan, and Nick Lowe, Jessica, Jeremy (Jake), and Kaelee Allmon, Jazmine, Micheal, Cole, and Matthew Thompson. Great grandchildren Tay and Traevyn Wheat, Brandyn Gueydan, and baby Allmon due in November. Also surviving Carl are his siblings Clair Thompson and wife Marilyn, Verla Thompson, Kathleen Leary and husband Chuck, Eleanor (Curly) McAtee, and Earl (Bud) Thompson. He also leaves sisters in law Priscilla Lindberg, Karleen and Howard Young, Mickie and David Miller, and brother in law Carl (Jr) Johnson. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Wanda Fausett.
Cremation has taken place and memorial services will be held at a later date.
