A Public/Private Partnership Proposal developed jointly by the City of Galesburg, Knox County, and the GREDA Board was approved by the City Council last night and was approved by the GREDA Board last week. The proposal will go to Knox County Board for approval later this month. The proposal includes forming a new public/private partnership organization made up of community and business leaders from the City of Galesburg, Knox County, and the private sector. "This new Public/Private Partnership for Economic Development, where Knox County, the City of Galesburg and private business sector combine financial resources, will allow us a good vehicle to get about the business of growing jobs and investment in the area", said John Pritchard, Mayor of Galesburg.

Public/private partnerships are an opportunity for the public and private sectors to share resources, expertise, and collaborate effectively to help build a thriving community. The new organization will create a single point of contact for economic development in the community and create a united and cohesive approach. "The successful approach for economic development is in a private/public model. We are very happy that we've been able to re-establish this partnership with City. I think it will provide Galesburg and our region with the opportunity to develop a stronger and revitalized economic development initiative," said Dick Kowalski, Chairperson for the GREDA Board.

GREDA, the City of Galesburg, and Knox County will work together to complete the process for transitioning to the new organization. "Economic development is really about coming together as a community to seize opportunities and address challenges. This proposal is only the first step, but it is one of the most important steps toward realizing that vision" said Leo Dion, President of GREDA.
