Ressa Mae Sedam, 75, of New Boston, died Friday, May 23, 2014 at her home. Visitation will be at New Boston United Methodist Church on Wednesday, May 28 from 12-2 p.m. followed by funeral services at 2:30 p.m.
Ressa Mae Sedam, 75, of New Boston, died Friday, May 23, 2014 at her home. Visitation will be at New Boston United Methodist Church on Wednesday, May 28 from 12-2 p.m. followed by funeral services at 2:30 p.m. Memorials may be left for Art-on-a-Cart, an art program benefiting Mercer County School District. Burial will be in New Boston Cemetery. Dennison Funeral Home, Aledo is assisting the family.
Ressa Mae was born Oct. 6, 1938 in New Boston a daughter of Harold and Bessie Mae Clawson VanHook. She married her high school sweetheart, Chester Sedam, on June 23, 1956 in Keithsburg.
She had worked for Thatcher in Muscatine. But, her passion was ceramics so she opened Country Keepsakes in Joy. Out of all her ceramics, she adored angels and dolls. She was also a talented seamstress. She loved her family and always made holidays special, especially with all her homemade food. Ressa Mae had a special place in her heart for children, not just her own kids and grandkids, but for the children in the community.
Those left to cherish her memory are her husband, Chester Sedam, New Boston; daughters, Debora (Bruce) Shelman, Mediapolis, Iowa and Lori (Dean) Nelson, Joy; seven grandchildren, Jeremy (Lynsey) Sedam, Andy (Sara) Sedam, Tim (Leanna) Sedam, Brian (Lacey) Imler, Stacie (Josh) Moore, Katie (Brian Hake) Peck and Kimberly (Levi McKracken) Bridgewater and nine great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, infant son Steven Lynn and siblings, Eddie VanHook, Larry VanHook and Francis Dahl.
