Help Karli win a new car

Karli Johnson of Sherrard has had her video selected as a top ten finalist for the nation-wide Toyota College Grad Video Contest. Johnson graduated with a bachelor of arts degree in communications with her major in media and minor in art from Northern Illinois University in December.

Free public concert May 19

A free public concert entitled “Smokin’ Hot Harmony” will top off the 2nd Annual Acappellooza Festival at Assumption High School Auditorium at 4 p.m., on Saturday, May 19. Male and female high school singers from Assumption, Bettendorf, Rivermont Collegiate, United Township, Kimberly Center and Sherrard will demonstrate their mastery of 4-part, a capella harmony, in the barbershop style.

The commencement ceremony will be at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 17 at the i wireless Center, Moline, Ill.

Sherrard juniors combine prom and community service

Members of the Sherrard Junior Class Senate have combined prom with community service. Individuals purchasing prom tickets were able to trade in cans for money off of their  prom ticket. One can equals $1 off for up to $10 off te price of the prom tickets. 

Several cans have been collected and will be distributed to the Sherrard Food Pantry.

Post-prom fundraiser is April 14 at Sherrard High School

Join in the fun on Saturday, April 14 at Sherrard High School for 14 games of Bingo featuring Longaberger baskets, prizes each game, as well as a variety of raffle and door prizes throughout the evening.

Sherrard cancels activities

All Sherrard evening activities are cancelled for this evening.

Jolly Roger and the Pirate Queen

The Sherrard Junior High School will be putting on the play Jolly Roger and the Pirate Queen. The play is scheduled for two performances on Feb. 24 and 25 starting at 7 p.m. both niights in the Sherrard High School auditorium.

Moline Foundation announces scholarship application deadline

The Moline Foundation announces February 15 as the deadline to apply for the Clem T. Hanson scholarship.  Residents of Moline School District No. 40 are eligible to apply for the four year college scholarship based on scholarship, financial need and extracurricular activities.  Students should contact their counseling office at Moline High School, Alleman High School or Black Hawk College for an application.  The three Hanson scholarship award winners will be chosen by a local scholarship selection committee and notified of their selection by May 1, 2012.  They will receive $1,500 annually for the next four years with an annual renewal based on satisfactory progress in their post-secondary education.

IHSA Opposes Potentially Dangerous Legislation In Senate Bill 2550

The Illinois High School Association (IHSA) has come out in strong opposition of Illinois Senate Bill 2550 and is urging its member schools and the communities they reside in to speak out against this potentially dangerous legislation.

Sherrard High School cancels activities

Sherrard High School has canceled all evening activities. The girls basketball game scheduled tonight at Rockridge has been rescheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 17. The wrestling meet with Alleman and Davenport North has been canceled tonight and the date to reschedule has yet to be determined.

Sherrard to go forward with conference change

The Sherrard Board of Education learned of an invitation for Sherrard to become affiliated with the Big Rivers Conference (for football) and Three Rivers Conference for all other sports at Wednesday's Oct. 19 meeting.

Sherrard Hall of Fame Recipients to be Honored

The Sherrard Academic Foundation announced honorees today for the Sherrard/Winola Alumni Hall of Fame. Recipients will be honored during the 4th annual Hall of Fame Event on Saturday, November 5 at the Rock Reception Hall in Coal Valley.
