Lingle, Foster land all conference honors at Monmouth College

Four Monmouth College softball players make up one-third of the South Division All-Midwest Conference team.

 

Seniors Lauren Bergstresser (Peoria, Ill./Richwoods) and Brooke Twohill (Lemont, Ill./Lemont) and sophomores Caitlin Lingle (Andalusia, Ill./Rockridge) and Sommer Foster (Alexis, Ill./United) were selected for the honor in a vote of the league’s coaches.

Sandburg to host career fair for area high school students

Carl Sandburg College will host a career fair from 10 a.m.-noon Friday, March 9 at the Main Campus in Galesburg for area high school students.

Moline Foundation announces scholarship application deadline

The Moline Foundation announces February 15 as the deadline to apply for the Clem T. Hanson scholarship.  Residents of Moline School District No. 40 are eligible to apply for the four year college scholarship based on scholarship, financial need and extracurricular activities.  Students should contact their counseling office at Moline High School, Alleman High School or Black Hawk College for an application.  The three Hanson scholarship award winners will be chosen by a local scholarship selection committee and notified of their selection by May 1, 2012.  They will receive $1,500 annually for the next four years with an annual renewal based on satisfactory progress in their post-secondary education.

Grants, per pupil money may be cut in Illinois

Illinois school districts may soon get the answer to their multi-million-dollar question: Exactly how much money are they getting from the state?
As the Illinois Legislature rushes to beat the budget deadline, lawmakers in the Illinois House are eyeing cuts to the majority of grants for local schools. General state aid also may be trimmed to make the House' $6.9 billion school spending goal.

IHSA Bass Fishing State Finals Postponed Due To Dangerous Water Levels

The Illinois High School Association (IHSA) announced on Thursday, April 28 that the 2011 IHSA Bass Fishing State Final Tournament, scheduled for Friday and Saturday, May 6-7 at Carlyle Lake in Carlyle, has been postponed due to dangerous water levels and will be rescheduled to unfold in Carlyle in May or June.

Mercer County High School will hold its graduation ceremony on May 22 at 1 p.m. at the high school.

United High School will hold its graduation ceremony on May 22 at 2 p.m. at the Huff Center on the campus of Monmouth College.

Rockridge High School will hold its graduation ceremony on May 29 at 2 p.m. at the high school.

Sherrard High School will hold its graduation ceremony on May 29 at the high school.

59-0 vote in Senate for school reforms, but changes possible in House

Legislation that would make major changes in how Illinois schools are run breezed through the Senate on a 59-0 vote Thursday, although two House lawmakers indicated that chamber might tweak the plan further.

Illinois third in nation for number of new teachers achieving highest teaching credentials

The State Board of Education announced today that Illinois ranks third nationally for the number of teachers who achieved National Board Certification in 2010 and ranks sixth in the nation for the cumulative total of teachers who have earned this professional milestone. The National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS) released the findings today as part of National Board Certification Day. This is  the fifth year in a row that Illinois has ranked among the top 10 states for the number of new teachers achieving the profession’s highest credential.
