Rachel C. Irwin and Trenton B. Whitehall are to be united in marriage on Saturday, July 21, 2012, 4 p.m. at the College Avenue Presbyterian Church, Aledo. A reception will follow the ceremony at the Rogalski Center Ballroom on the campus of St. Ambrose University, Davenport, Iowa at approximately 6 p.m.
Frank “Vic” Anderson, 68, of Aledo, died Tuesday, April 24, 2012 at his home. Funeral services will be Saturday, April 28, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at Speer Funeral Home, Aledo. Burial will be in Aledo Cemetery. Visitation is Friday, April 27, 2012 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the family.
On April 18, the following individuals were recognized for volunteer hours/milestones they accomplished the past year.
On Tuesday, April 24, 2012 at 2:23 p.m., the Aledo Police Department responded to the area of N.E. 7th Street and N.E. 2nd Ave., in reference to a person lying in the street and unresponsive. Upon arrival it was determined that the male subject was unresponsive and shortly afterwards was pronounced dead at the scene by Mercer County Coroner Ron McNall.
The members of Mercer County Women for Women will convene at 6 p.m. on May 15 at the Town & Country Restaurant in Aledo for their May meeting.
Gary Castor, 64, of Reynolds, died Tuesday, April 24, 2012 at Heartland Healthcare Center, Moline. Services are Friday, April 27, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. at Speer Funeral Home, Aledo. Harry E. Fisher of Aledo and Eureka was elected to the Executive Board of MBAA International at its 48th annual meeting at the Drake Hotel, Chicago, March 28-30.
Olivet Nazarene University recently recognized Martha Harrouff, a senior from Aledo, as the Student Employee of the Year for the 2011-2012 academic year. A dietetics major, she works as a teaching and lab assistant in the biological sciences department.
Robert G. Peterson, 81, of Colona, died Monday, April 23, 2012, at Hope Creek Care Center, East Moline. Services are 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 25, 2012 at Schroder Mortuary, Colona, with visitation two hours prior to service time. Burial is at Viola Cemetery. John Robert Vance Sr., 92, of Aledo, died Thursday, April 19, 2012, at the Mercer County Nursing Home. Services are 11 a.m. Saturday, April 21, 2012 at Bewley Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Aledo. Visitation will be 10 a.m. until time of the service. Burial is at the Aledo Cemetery. This year the 4-H Federation leader and retired Master Carpenter Duane Goderis with 4-H members Timothy and Jace Goderis, replaced an old, tattered sign with a new, more visible sign that had been donated in memory of Sandy Martin. The 4-H Federation and its members have coordinated several hours of hard labor in the past, working on odd jobs that the Animal Control officers do not typically have time for.

Mercer County Quilters Guild will be holding the monthly meeting on Thursday, April 26 at 7 p.m. in the activity room of Mercer County Nursing Home. The program "T-Shirt Quilts", will be given by Mary McMeekan. The guild members will be meeting at the Aledo Fire Station to make Charity Quilts on Thursday, April 19 from 1 - 5 p.m. Everyone is welcome to attend both meetings.
The Mercer County Hospital Auxiliary will meet Thursday, April 19, at 2:00 in the hospital cafe. The officers will meet at 1:30 in the board room. After the meeting, we will have a book sale for the members that attend the meeting. This is a good chance to pass along books that you have finished reading.
