Morning Jolt: Haunted home for seniors?

An abandoned hospital in Los Angeles that is believed by many to be haunted will be transformed into a senior home. The Linda Vista Community Hospital – which is so creepy that it is often used in movies – has been the site of numerous ghost reportings over the years. Amcal Multi-Housing Inc. says the stories are just urban legends and will change the facility to senior housing in the near future.

Trinity Muscatine breaks ground on major facilities expansion

Just a few years after nearly closing its doors, Trinity Muscatine is expanding.   On Monday, May 14, representatives from the hospital, its parent company Trinity Regional Health System, board members, and the Greater Muscatine Chamber of Commerce & Industry hoisted ceremonial shovels to break ground on the $18.5 million facilities expansion. The project encompasses the emergency, operating, laboratory and radiology departments and also includes new technology.

Memorial Day Services at Penile are 10 a.m. May 28

   The Memorial Day Service at Peniel Cemetery will be held on Monday, May 28th at 10:00 a.m.  Rev. Beth Nelson of Joy United Methodist Church will be the speaker.  Mrs. Susie Kenney and her students from Mercer County Jr. High School will provide special music.  People are asked to bring flowers to decorate the graves of veterans.  The committee members are Jill Brokaw, Lorine Etheridge, and Nancy Retherford.

Morning Jolt: Family saves kitten tossed out of car

A Michigan couple were driving on the freeway in Dearborn, Mich., when they saw a kitten tossed from a speeding car. Ronald Haas and Niel Rishoi quickly stopped and picked up the kitten, who surprisingly was OK other than being “scared and panicked.” The couple then adopted her and named her Dora.

Morning Jolt: Bit by snake at Wal-Mart?

A man says he was bitten by a rattlesnake at a Wal-Mart in eastern Washington state. The man was in the outdoor gardening area and said he bent down to pick up a stick, but it turned out to be a rattlesnake. The snake wasn’t happy about being picked up and so bit the man, who was rushed to a hospital. The man survived but might have permanent damage to his hand.

Illinois Weekly Gas Price Update and Outlook

Illinois, May 14- Average retail gasoline prices in Illinois have fallen 7.8 cents per gallon in the past week, averaging $3.91/g yesterday. This compares with the national average that has fallen 3.3 cents per gallon in the last week to $3.73/g, according to gasoline price website IllinoisGasPrices.com.

A man who wishes to remain anonymous won a $1 million Powerball prize six times. He purchased six tickets using the same number and won the second prize of $1 million each time.
