Quad Cities, USA: The Salvation Army is pleased to announce that VON MAUR, the locally owned high-end department store, will sponsor the sixth annual Red Kettle Match Days this weekend.

On December 23rd and 24th, VON MAUR will make a dollar-for-dollar match up to $10,000 to Quad Cities red kettle donations at Northpark and Southpark Malls. The five locations include two large red kettles inside of the malls.

Donations are needed to help meet this campaign’s goal of $815,000. We are currently at $490,000 of that goal. The Salvation Army asks the community to take VON MAUR up on their challenge in order to maximize gifts made to The Salvation Army of the Quad Cities.

Major Gary Felton, Quad Cities Coordinator is “so pleased to partner again with such a notable and admired business in our community. The timing of this match weekend couldn’t be any better our Red Kettle Campaign because we are noticing that we are behind on our goal this year. Being at 60 percent of our goal with four days left in the Red Kettle Campaign is very alarming.”

The Red Kettle campaign provides 60 percent of the annual budget used by The Salvation Army to provide people with their basic needs, warm shelter and nutritious food, new life skills, character building – anything necessary to help community members achieve healthy, productive living.

Bell ringing concludes on December 24th at 5pm.

What happens if the goal is not met? Does The Salvation Army of the Quad Cities shut the doors to our shelter? Do they stop providing food, clothing and basic human needs to those in the Quad Cities? They do not want to have to make a decision about what programs to cut, but if the gap cannot be made uo, this is what will have to happen. Major Felton reflects, “This is one of the largest gaps we have had in the past 7 years, however the community has always rallied around us in our time of need. This goal was aggressive for us, but I am cautiously optimistic we will make our goal.”
