Bernard H. Schmidt, 87, of rural Reynolds, passed away Friday June 23, 2017 at Clarissa Cook Hospice, Bettendorf.

Funeral services will be 11:30 am Wednesday at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, 801 W. Edgington Street, Reynolds, IL. Visitation will be 10:00 am to service time. Burial will follow in Reynolds Cemetery, with Military Honors presented by the Reynolds American Legion.

Bernard H. Schmidt, 87, of rural Reynolds, passed away Friday June 23, 2017 at Clarissa Cook Hospice, Bettendorf.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be left in Bernard's name to the American Legion Post 1166 Reynolds, Illinois.

Bernard was born on April 1, 1930 in Milan, the son of Louis and Maude
(Sackville) Schmidt. He married Mardelle Wulf on January 12, 1954 in Iowa City, IA. She preceded him in death on November 16, 2001.

Bernard graduated from Augustana College, Rock Island with a Bachelor’s Degree in Geology. After graduation he worked for Olive Iron Mining Co., Ishpeming, MI.  He joined the United States Army and served with the 8th Army Intelligence during the Korean War. His Company was awarded a unit letter of recognition from the South Korean Government for their work during the war. After his discharge from the Army, he returned home and farmed the family farm and his brother Larry's farms until retiring at the age of 73. He loved spending his days on the farm and rebuilding windmills.

Survivors include his children and spouses, Grant (Debbie) Schmidt, Bettendorf, IA, Bradley (Lisa) Schmidt, Fox Lake, IL, Lee Schmidt, Reynolds, IL, Kathy (Kevin) Dean, Reynolds, IL; grandchildren, Jennifer, Heather, Markie, Matthew, Sarah, Kristin, Chad and Austin; siblings, Desyl, Ramona, Karen and Larry.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mardelle; siblings, Gloryl, Marlin (Jake), Virgil (Stub), Elizabeth (Betty), Duane (Hein) and Stanley.
