ALEDO — Aledo Pawn and Gun is boarded up after a driver crashed through the front of the business about 7:14 p.m. Sunday, April 29.

Justin Allen, 28, Aledo, was westbound on Highway 17, when he crossed into the eastbound lane, drove through a parking lot and careened 30 to 40 feet through the front of the store, driving through merchandise and display cases. His Chevrolet Equinox stopped at the back of the store after pushing the checkout counter back about 5 or 6 feet. There were no injuries.

He was charged with a DUI (driving under the influence), improper lane usage, and failure to reduce speed in an accident. He was released that night on bond.

“There was no sign the brakes were even touched,” said Aledo Police Chief Chris Sullivan.

The same evening, just six six blocks away from the accident, a crowd was gathered at the Central Park Band Shell for the grand opening concert featuring Mercer County school band students from sixth grade through high school.
