Thanks to Matthew Tracy, Veterans of Foreign Wars Commander at the time, a group of Mercer County Vietnam veterans put in their applications for the flight at the same time in hopes they would get to go together. After a two-year wait, they did.
Vietnam veterans overwhelmed by show of appreciation after Honor Flight. Fifteen Mercer County veterans arrived home Thursday night, April 26, to an emotional show of support from the 43rd Quad Cities Honor Flight.
The greeting by most Vietnam veterans they received after their tour was done was extremely different than the one they were shown Thursday.
Seven of the 15 veterans sat down to talk about their experiences.
