Wilma Jean (Welch) Garrett, beloved mother and grandmother passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on May 14, 2018.

Wilma was born July 28, 1931 in New Boston, Illinois to John and Elosia Welch. She was four pounds at birth, the youngest child of four, nicknamed “Runt”. She grew up on a farm and attended a one room school house and graduated Valedictorian from high school. After attending Monmouth College, she married James R. Garrett on June 17, 1951. They were married 56 years before his passing in 2007. After their two daughters were born, they moved to Riverside, California, began careers, bought a home and raised a family. Music and laughter always filled Wilma’s home. She enjoyed stage plays, musicals, concerts, beach trips, vacations to the mountains, Disneyland, picnics, and above all dancing.

After 30 years at Security Pacific Bank, she and Jim retired, sold the home they had lived in for 30 years and moved up to Paso Robles, California. Wilma adored the Central Coast and she and Jim had so much fun traveling to all the local spots as well as many cross country driving trips, attending local theatre productions, basketball games, sightseeing, and rooting for her favorite team, the Lakers.

After her beloved Jim passed away, Wilma became quite the joiner and made many friends playing Bingo, going to potlucks and concerts. She especially loved walking her neighborhood and chatting with her neighbors and going shopping with friends. Wilma was a happy, fun-loving, upbeat lady that was a wonderful mother and who dearly loved her grandchildren. She will be missed so very much by her family and friends.

Wilma leaves behind her daughter, Gina (Larry) Brixey, grandsons; Dustin and Cody Allen, and Brendon Paxton, granddaughters; Megan Brixey and Amanda DeCoste, and great-granddaughter, Peyton Smith.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, James; daughter, Dee, her parents, sisters; Bernadine “Bernie” Holton and Marjorie Welch, and brother, William “Bud” Welch.

The family extends a special thank you to Central Coast Hospice. Memorials in Wilma’s name may be made to Central Coast Home Health and Hospice, 253 Granada Dr., Suite D, San Luis Obispo, CA 934-1.
