Mercer County State's Attorney Meeghan Lee announced that the Illinois Governor Bruce Rauner and the Illinois Prison Review board have denied clemency to Ryan Bell. Bell was convicted of criminal sexual assault in Mercer County of a minor. Bell was sentenced to 20 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections.

The Governor and the Board do not disclose the reasoning behind their decision to grant or deny. In his bid for clemency Bell claimed changes to his life while in prison as the basis for his clemency. The victim, , witnesses, officers and others involved in the case were allowed to send in their own request. Several letters in support of denial of clemency were sent in by the State, police, the victim and others.

We are pleased that the Governor and Board took the time to read and review all information sent in. Justice continues to be done on behalf of this victim. Just because the case is over, that doesn't mean we stop advocating for our victims.
