 Apollo 13 astronaut Captain James A. Lovell Jr. will sign copies of his book Apollo 13 on Thursday, September 23 from 9:30 to 11 a.m. at the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Museum Book Store in Springfield. The book signing is free and open to the public, and copies of Lovell’s book may be purchased at the store. Only books will be signed.

Gas prices fall five cents in Illinois

Average retail gasoline prices in Illinois have  fallen 5.0 cents per gallon in the past week, averaging $2.72/g yesterday. This compares with the national average that has fallen 1.2 cents per gallon in the last week to $2.69/g, according to gasoline price website IllinoisGasPrices.com.

Commerce Department Invests $6 Million to Provide Davenport, Iowa Businesses with Flood-Proof Transportatio

U.S. Commerce Secretary Gary Locke today announced a $6.7 million U.S. Economic Development Administration (EDA) grant to the city of Davenport, Iowa, and the Greater Davenport Redevelopment Commission to help build a transload facility, which handles the movement of goods between rail and truck, for businesses utilizing the Interstate 80 Airport Industrial Park.  The project is expected to create 1,500 jobs and generate $45 million in private investment, according to grantee estimates.

Taylor Ridge man elected to Illinois Corn Marketing Board

Scott Stirling, a grain producer from Martinton, Illinois has been elected Chairman of the Illinois Corn Marketing Board (ICMB) for 2010-2011. The Iroquois County corn producer has served on the board since August of 2004. Stirling currently represents corn producers in District 6 which is comprised of Ford-Iroquois, Champaign and Vermilion Counties.  Stirling replaces Jim Rapp of Princeton.
