The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) will host the 2012 Today’s Challenge, Tomorrow’s Reward (TCTR) conference to connect disadvantaged business enterprises with prime contractors and identify business partnership opportunities for minority- and woman-owned entities.  The two-day event starting Feb. 21 will feature a keynote address by U.S. Senator Dick Durbin on Feb. 22.

“Illinois is the transportation hub of North America and our economic recovery depends on the investments made in the transportation industry,” said Sen. Durbin.  “Creating more opportunities through next week’s conference will bring in new ideas, help small business owners improve their operations and eventually allow more women and minority-owned businesses to succeed.  I’m pleased to have the opportunity to join IDOT at this important event.”

The TCTR conference agenda will highlight supportive services assistance, workshops, business exhibits, project management, networking with prime contractors, IDOT policies and processes, legislation, and programs, and will conclude with an awards luncheon.

“Recruiting, retaining and increasing capacity of qualified minority and woman-owned companies is a central priority for all IDOT construction projects,” said Illinois Transportation Secretary Ann Schneider.  “Senator Durbin consistently demonstrates his support for the program, and we are delighted he will join us at the conference.  We strongly encourage all interested Disadvantaged Business Enterprises to register for this tremendous opportunity to enhance operations, gain industry insights and connections within the industry.”

The conference will take place at the Abraham Lincoln Hotel & Conference Center, 701 E. Adams St., Springfield, 62701.  Registration starts at 10:30 a.m. on Feb. 21.  For further information and to register, contact IDOT’s Bureau of Small Business Enterprises at 217-785-7527 or visit http://www.dot.il.gov/dobuisns.html#TCTR_2012_DBE_Conference, and click on “Registration Form” and “Save the Date” listed in the Office of Business and Workforce Diversity section.
