The Eliza Fire Department will host its third annual coyote hunt Feb. 12 - 14. Check-in is from 6 - 8 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 12. Entry fees ($50 a two-person team) must be paid at that time. Check out is from 6-8 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 14. Winners will be decided by the total weight of the harvest.

First place winners will receive half of the total entry fees. Second place receives a gift certificate "something worth about $100," according to Fire Chief Royce Green. There is also a prize for the largest single coyote.

At least one team member must be present at the closing to win. Two person teams are formed.
"Last year not a whole lot of people entered," said Green. He claimed the weather has a lot to do with the turnout.

"Last year we had warm weather and it was muddy," he said. The first year we had a good turnout."

The only rules for the hunt is the coyotes must be shot. "Rules are that you can't trap them, you have to shoot them. You've got to follow the laws. If you get in trouble, you're disqualified," he added.

Any questions, call Green at (563) 260-5607.
